Smith Stratton was established in Princeton in 1949. The firm has become a fixture in the Northeast corridor by delivering favorable and cost-effective results. The firm represents clients in trials and appeals in state and federal courts, arbitrations and mediations in a wide range of matters. Smith Stratton has developed a particular expertise in insurance matters. Over the past thirty years, the firm’s attorneys have played a prominent role in many of the largest insurance coverage declaratory judgment actions in the country, in which the firm’s clients had millions of dollars at risk. The firm’s partners have served as coordinating counsel in high profile coverage and products liability matters, including pharmaceutical, environmental, asbestos, latex and tainted blood claims, and frequently provide insurers with advice and opinions addressing a broad range of coverage questions. The firm has a growing reinsurance practice, including claims in both litigation and arbitration.   • Representing the lead umbrella insurer in a declaratory judgment action involving coverage claims arising from OxyContin®;

  • Serving as regional counsel to a former manufacturer of an asbestos-containing product in hundreds of products liability cases;

  • Representing a substantial participant in a London arbitration involving coverage for thousands of Vioxx bodily injury claims;

  • Successfully defending a medical device manufacturer against claims of negligence and strict product liability;

  • Successfully defending a leading provider of pollution insurance products against claims by one of the world’s largest chemical companies seeking to recover loss of income due to a fire and explosion at a chemical plant;

  • Successfully defending a biotech company in a tainted blood factor products liability litigation;

  • Representing a minority owner in a new insurance concern, ultimately obtaining a multi-million dollar settlement after trial and appeal to the New Jersey Supreme Court;

  • Successfully representing a small apparel designer/manufacturer against Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and one of its subsidiaries;
